Incoming 3rd Grade Children for 2021/2022 School Year
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the Third Grade! This will be a very exciting school year! We have many fun and exciting things planned!
This summer, please begin to work on multiplication facts with your child. Knowing them will make the third grade math curriculum much easier.
Help your child create a SUMMER COLLAGE. Take pictures of all the fun things that you do with your child. Also, collect brochures, pamphlets, ticket stubs, maps and souvenirs from places that you visit. Place all of these items along with a paragraph about your summer on a small poster (12x18). Nothing larger please!
Please encourage your child to read every day during the summer. The Jackson Heights Library has a wide selection of books for you to borrow. The children’s librarian is very helpful and knowledgeable. Please refer to the Suggested Third Grade Reading List for appropriate titles. Please continue to have children read on Raz-Kids and practice their math skills on IXL.com.
Please return the completed project and survey on the first day of school. All school supplies are due by the end of the first week. We wish you a safe and fun summer vacation!

Summer Math Practice
Please make sure that your child practices addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts this summer. IXL is a great resource to practice math skills.
- Your child should work on the following skills before entering the third grade:
- Memorize ALL addition and subtraction facts
- Practice multiplication facts
- Subtract with regrouping
- Tell time to the nearest hour, half-hour and five minutes
- Identify simple fractions
- Add money and make change

- 6 sturdy 2 pocket folders
- 1 soft pencil case (NO HARD PLASTIC PENCIL BOXES)
- 1 box of Crayola crayons ( 24 crayons or smaller )
