Science with Mrs. Mueses
Upper Grade Science
At PS 212 Queens, the 3-5 Science Program is taught using a multi-sensory, hands- on, minds-on approach. Based on the principle that students learn best by doing, my investigations, experiments and activities use inquiry and Science Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to excite student interest and curiosity. We follow the NYC Science Scope and Sequence. Read more about what your child will learn this year here: http://schools.nyc.gov/NR/rdonlyres/949E0441-ADAF-445C-A915-E9F8123E1387/0/K5ScienceScopeandSequence_Updated.pdf
STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) Enrichment programs are offered to our top achieving classes. This year Classes 3-317, 4-404, and 5-413 will participate in design challenges that follow the steps of the engineering and design process.
In June, our gym becomes the venue for our fabulous Bubble Biomes. These large scale, inflatable plastic bubbles are the culminating project for our 5th grade science students. Each class studies and researches a different biome, then creates plant and animal models to replicate that biome inside the bubble. Throughout the year, students complete projects on a variety of topics in our science curriculum.
